staysee's Full Review: Sharper Image Ionic Breeze 3.0 Air Purifier
Reason for Purchase
I found out many months ago, that not only am I allergic to house dust and dust mites but to my four dogs as well!
I have tried everything thing from sinus rinses, decongestants, allergy medication, air conditioning filters and anything else you could think of hoping that my allergy/sinus problems would ease up. I'm not asking for a miracle here, just a little sign of relief. Well, I'm not getting rid of the dogs and the dust, despite having someone clean and dust every week, will just not go away.
Macy's was having a sale on Ionic Breeze units. It was a buy one, get one free. I am queen of BOGO, so I decided to try it out. I put one in my son's room and one in my room right next to my bed on top of my dresser.
The 3.0 is a compact unit, large enough to make difference but small enough to fit on a counter top or table. The last thing I needed was something else sitting on the floor of my bedroom.
About the Ionic Breeze
The Ionic Breeze 3.0 will remove particles as small as 1 micron and will cover a room up to 375 sq. ft. Using Ionic circulation (which is virtually silent), the unit removes such things as spores, mold and dust from the air.
These particles are trapped on the Stainless Steel collection Blades located inside the unit. The blades can be removed by sliding them upward and out of the unit easily.
The unit is only 19" tall and weighs just 4 1/4 lbs.
There is an LED Indicator on top to let you know if the unit is on or it will tell you if cleaning is overdue. There are three settings you can use: hi, med, and low. I have kept mine on hi for maximum benefit. The unit is extremely quiet, in fact I can't really hear it working.

Ionic Breeze technology has been extensively tested at two prominent U.S. universities and at America's foremost allergy research center. In one recent report, the center's director wrote, "When running (Ionic Breeze) in a house with a cat, results provide overwhelming evidence that the Ionic Breeze can remove large quantities of cat allergen from the air; that the quantities collected suggest that it can clean large volumes of air.." Other tests - which are ongoing - show that Ionic Breeze does a great job capturing particles that contain pollen and other airborne irritants.
Care and Maintenance
All you do is wipe the grid clean with a damp cloth and reinsert it into the durable plastic casing. After doing so you have to turn the unit upside down. I'm not sure what the purpose of this is, but I think it has something to do with re-activating the ions.
Warranty
The unit comes with the manufacturer's five year warranty. The unit only uses 250 watts of electricity and is compact enough to fit just about anywhere.
My Experience
I have noticed that I sleep a lot better at night because the unit is so close to me and I feel like I'm breathing in fresh air. It's hard to explain but the air actually has a clean, cool smell to it, if that makes any sense. Have my allergies gone away? No, not completely but the unit has helped a lot. I still have to dust constantly and vacuum to remove the pet hair.
I notice when I clean the grid it's really dusty and black. Wonder what all that black stuff is??? It is really helpful when the LED light tells me when I have waited too long to clean it.
Unfortunately, my unit is plugged into my switched outlet, which is usually turned off when we leave and I sometimes forget to turn it back on. If I do, I then have to go over to the unit and turn the unit on again.
We eventually took the second unit from my son's room (he just couldn't take care of it) and placed it on my husband's nightstand. There is a even bigger difference with both the units in the room.
I think that cleaning is key to this unit working properly. You should automatically clean it once a week, even if the unit doesn't tell you to.
I guess I can't expect to get rid of my allergies completely with four dogs sleeping in bed with me, but having two of these in my bedroom has made an exceptional difference in the air quality.
