Pros: Attractive design. Small size.
Cons: With bass comes distortion and noise.
The Bottom Line: OK maybe for computer or TV. Enough music bass only for a closet-size room. Room any larger? Look elsewhere.

| quigsand's Full Review: Sharper Image SA251 Subwoofer Speaker |
I had high hopes for this little guy. I bought it "as new" from the Sharper Image (SI) ebay store. I had intended to use the SA251 to augment the bass on a Panasonic shelf system I had recently purchased. When I hooked up the 251 and started to increase the output, as soon as a noticeable amount of (mid)bass began to materialize, so did a definite knocking (popping) sound, indicating the little cone was being over-driven. Decreasing the output fixed this problem, at the cost of nearly canceling bass production. It is possible this "as new" unit was defective. At some point in the test, I was decreasing the volume on the shelf system when the SI sub suddenly became much LOUDER! This occurred twice and was very apparent. I suppose I was just expecting too much from this little sub. So, as much as I wanted to keep it (cosmetically, it was a perfect match for the Panasonic system), I had to take it back. Fortunately, SI has a terrific return policy, in which an item can be returned to ANY Shaper Image store. Of course, I lost my $5.95 original shipping, but oh well.
As a computer sub it might be O.K. As a TV sub, it could work. But as a music sub, it is a fish out of water, unless background music levels are all that is asked of it.
