I wanted one of those wall mounted stereos. I purchased several that were horrible. Horrible sound, ergonomics, etc.
I finally found one that worked good, just that, good.
It's of all brands a Durabrand! Wally world's house brand.
And speaking of brand it don't matter. Emerson,Lennox,Funai all these low end value brands come from China and they all look and sound the same to me.
Anyway......
The stereo sounds good but lacked any real bass. Because how much bass can you get from a speaker system the size of 2 tissue boxes? The unit does have a subwoofer output and variable too. The manual says for a line level powered subwoofer.
So off I go, and all I find are subs that cost three times what I paid for the stereo. But perusing the Sharper image they had this subwoofer as a refurb for $25. I should have known better, you do get what you pay for.At this price I don't mind but had I paid full price it would have went back. Which is what the previous owner of this sub probably did.
There is no auto sensing, you must turn this on by a switch on the rear. When you do there is this God awful thump. Then there is this constant 60hz low level hum. I thought it was defective. I sent it back and received another, guess what? The same thing. It's just poorly engineered.
Anyway this sorry excuse for a subwoofer either gives the loudest sloppiest bass I have ever heard or nothing, the level knob is not very helpful.I think this thing was designed to appeal to the Sharper Image main customer;
People who think they know good sound but don't. That the louder it is the better it sounds, quantity over quality.
I turn it on every now and then when I listen to bass heavy music, but after awhile it gets tiring and I just shut it off.
Like many S.I. products and low end products:Don't bother.
