| Raoul_Ries's Full Review: Sigma AF 17-35mm f/2.8 4 EX HSM Lens |
Based on some good reviews and indeed interesting specs, I bought this lens. What a disappointment! Even at f8 (and a tripod, just to make sure it was not due to camera shake) negatives were NOT really sharp anywhere at 17mm. Distortion was acceptable with non-critical subjects.
This may be considered a 'good lens for the price', but then so is the bottom of a coke bottle!
If you are not very concerned about technical picture quality, this lens indeed covers most of most people's wide-angle needs.
Overall manufacturing is good, the lens is nice enough to handle.
I sold it after a couple of films and now use mostly Sigma's 24mm. If I need a wider lens for a specific purpose, I rent a 20mm or 15mm prime.
