Pros:Remote control, timer, sturdiness, easy to take apart to clean, easy to put together, POWERFUL.

Cons:None!

The Bottom Line: If you are looking for a powerful, sturdy fan with the luxury of a remote and timer, this is the fan for you.

It was a hot humid day...
here in San Diego and we knew it was only the start of it, considering it was just April. A few years ago, I had bought one of the cheapy oscillating stand fans (probably paid $12) and after using it for one season, I realized I had gotten what I paid for. It was retired to the trash after the flimsy pedestal bent so that it would no longer stand. My neighbor then lent me her "swamp cooler", which was a small (maybe 1'x1') box-shaped device that you put ice or cool water in, and it spits out cool air. That didn't work...it had the air flow of one of those tiny hand fans that might be running out of batteries. We knew it was time for action...

Why I chose the Honeywell Model HS-300 standing oscillating fan...
I had learned from the above mistakes. I did my research here on epinions and discovered the Honeywell. When I went to Target, the Honeywell was the only fan that had the features that I wanted: a timer and a remote. It blew the other models away. And it wasn't much more: $35. A small price to pay for comfort and quality.

The Specifics...
The company website (www.kaz.com) gives this description of the fan: Control this High Velocity, super cooling oscillating fan from the comfort of your chair via remote control. Advanced blade design moves more air to cool you faster. Remote control puts you in charge of your comfort.

Features and Benefits:
-Three timer settings (2,4,8 hours)
-Breeze mode simulates outdoor wind flow
-Advanced High Velocity blades move more air
-Led lights and audio "beep" confirm fan and remote are working
-Remote control fits into neck of unit for easy storage
-Two AAA batteries included with fan
-UL approved
-5 year limited warranty

My experience with the fan...
Our battle against the heat required two different fans: a window fan and this standing fan. We bought a $15 Holmes twin window fan (fits in vertically opening windows) and this Honeywell. The Honeywell was easy to put together.
At first, I couldn't find the instructions and I could almost put it together without them. It is sturdy. The base is a fairly wide (about 2 feet in diameter) circle made of heavy-duty plastic that I doubt would break and doesn't seem like it would be easy to tip over. The head of the fan is 16" wide. Even on the lowest setting, it is a powerful air mover. It would almost be nice to have a super-low setting because it is that powerful. The head of the fan is moveable: up and down. It will be SUPER EASY to clean: the grill is fastened on the front by clamps. No screws or things you need tools for. Just sturdy clamp-type fasteners.

THE REMOTE CONTROL: The remote control is so nice to have. While watching television in the bed, we have only to reach to the nightstand at bedside to get the remote and turn it on or off, or even set the timer from the remote. A red light confirms your setting on the fan itself. It may seem lazy to have a remote for a fan that is only 10 feet away, but if you wake up in the middle of the night hot and don't want to trip and fall (like I have a tendency to do), it is very handy. The remote itself is very small and takes AAA batteries. When not in use, you can place the remote on the fan itself (there is a holding slot on the front of the fan) so you won't lose it.

THE TIMER: It can be set to turn off after 2, 4 or 8 hours. Unfortunately, it cannot be set to turn on at a certain time (although I think Honeywell does make a fan like that). To use the timer, on the remote you can just turn the fan on whatever setting you like and then push the timer button until the light is on the time setting that you want. After the alloted time, it quietly goes off, so as not to disturb you. This is so helpful because I get cold in the middle of the night and often wake up because of that. Now, I can have the fan shut off so I won't wake up!

THE BREEZE MODE: I'm not sure about the usefulness of this feature, but I do find it helpful when my boyfriend is hot and wants the fan on and I am not hot. We put it on breeze mode (by pressing the breeze button while the fan is on low, medium or high) and it randomly outputs a breeze that is anywhere from light to medium.

THE CONCLUSION...
If you want a sturdy fan with the luxury of a remote and timer, this is the fan for you. It isn't much more expensive than the cheap models and is well worth the money. It is a powerful fan and when combined with a window fan, is the next best thing to air conditioning. I highly recommend it!
