Ok before I start I have to say a couple of things - Firstly ive been in bed for most of the week with flu so please forgive me if this op isnt up to my usually high standard (although im confident that it will be) and furthermore I could do with any sympathy you're willing to give? Secondly, ive just noticed that in the month ive been a member of ciao, ive so far knocked out 34 opinions and to be brutally honest, im running out of things to write op's about! Fear not however, Smirnoff blue is here!
Firstly, excuse the obvious title steal from the recent Smirnoff advertisement campaign - I'm too lazy to think of a title myself!
Personally, vodka has never been my drink of choice, I'm usually impartial to a couple of pints of stella down at my local, or sometimes a couple of glasses of wine (don't tell anyone I drink wine please!). However, I can be seen to be drinking Smirnoff blue on a pretty regular basis for a few good reasons.
Firstly Smirnoff Vodka blue gets the job done nicely. At 45%Abv it really does hit the spot - be careful however as if you have one too many it could be you whose hitting the floor! I personally like to drink a couple of vodka and coke's before heading on to a club as I myself am a poor university student and cannot afford to spend too much time sat in the local boozer! You really don't need to drink much of the stuff either to set yourself up for a big night out, I personally find that a couple of double Smirnoff Blue and coke's sets myself up nicely for a night on the town with the boys.
Secondly, Smirnoff vodka blue is an extremely smooth tasting vodka. As I mentioned earlier, although vodka isnt my drink of choice, I have tried and tested most of the vodka's available on the domestic market and to be frank, this is one of the best around. Obviously if you're not a vodka fan, this is definately not going to convert you - in fact it may have you running towards your nearest toilet. If you are partial to a couple of vodka's now and again however, this may be just the ticket. I must warn you that Smirnoff vodka blue does taste pretty strong, however it lacks the unmistakable grotesque aftertaste of many of the cheaper brands available on the market, which I beleive makes this far easier to drink.
Before you hand over your trusty credit card tho, I have to warn you that Smirnoff vodka blue does come at a price! The lowest price I could find quoted online for the standard 70cl bottle was £16.56, which sounds quite a lot, and is quite alot to be fair! Although it is stronger than most of the other vodka's on the market, I don't believe that this makes it warrant such a high price tag - personally I feel that this is the one single factor which detract's from this product immensely. Had Smirnoff vodka blue been priced more sensibly, I probably would have given it a 5* rating as it is an excellent product - however im afraid that im only going to give it 4 stars now!
To give you an idea of how expensive Smirnoff vodka blue really is - allow me to compare prices between it and the classic Smirnoff vodka red. Smirnoff red costs a mere £11.61 for a 70cl bottle - a saving of £4.95 from the blue variety! So before you ask the inevitable question of "Is it worth it?", quite frankly the answer is no im afraid, the extra 7.5%abv isnt really worth paying an extra £4.95 for! However, if money is no object to you, then I would definately recommend Smirnoff vodka blue as an excellent product for you (rhymes huh!).
I must finally stress that Smirnoff vodka blue must be consumed responsibly. The extra 7.5% abv compared to standard vodka's may not sound much, however you should adjust your designated limit accordingly or I'm afraid that you may end up in a pretty sorry state (been there, done that myself). If you're a parent and have a bottle of this lying around the place, be responsible and keep it away from your kids.
