| dillfest95's Full Review: Rio Cali Sport (128 MB) MP3 Player |
I got one of these for my Mom for Christmas. She wanted something for the athletic club. She can listen to talks/books while she bikes or use the radio to listen to the TVs they have set up.
After toying with hers, I really wanted one. I got mine for $129- $20 mail in rebate from JandR music world. (www.jandr.com). I also got a deal from JandR on a 256Mb SD chip, so I tripled my memory for what my Mom's Rio cost from Best Buy! It's got great sound (customizable equalizer), nice earphones for jogging and lifting (the small hang-on your ear kind with a long cord), good battery life (10+ hours on a regular AAA battery) and the belt clip isn't flimsy, it holds it snug on your belt. Of course, it weighs nothing, so there's be no bouncing in any case...
My only complaint is that it doesn't have a firmware upgrade (yet) that allows it to decode mp3pro for better frequency response. It plays them, but loses the high end of the spectrum. That's a very small complaint, given the quality of this thing. The USB 1:1 connection is done with a special cable, so if you lose it or it breaks, you have to order another one for $6.50.
Apparently, a new version of the Cali (to be released in June) was shown at CES- smaller, made of metal, better battery life. I spite of that, I'm glad I didn't wait. I use this thing daily.
