Pros: Expandable Memory, Seemingly water (sweat) proof.
Cons: Software doesn't handle the memory correctly when SD card installed.
The Bottom Line: I can't recommend it because the included Rio Music Manager cannot handle the device when additional memory is added.

| potus2's Full Review: Rio Cali Sport (256 MB) MP3 Player |
I bought this player before coming to Epinions. Bad idea. What other people are seeing here is what I am experiencing. The product worked well with the original 256M bytes, but once I added a 1Gig SD card everything went to hell. The RIO Music manager got totally confused by the additional memory and didn't know how to associate the WMA/MP3 files on the SD card to the playlists I created. Thus, those Playlists came up as being empty once installed on the player.
I thought I was doing something wrong so I kept trying to get it to work. What the player tries to do is add all playlists to the original 256M and at some point, it tried creating those playlist where there was no more memory available. That totally screwed things up. The file system management on the player didn't handle that error condition and after receiving many errors, the file system for the first driver became corrupted. I could no longer write to the original 256M file system. My only recourse was to do a reformat of that drive.
And guess what? After the reformat, my 256M player was now a 121M player. There was nothing I could do about it. I now own a $130 product with half the memory that was advertised. I've tried contacting support (email) at Rio but have not heard back.
So if you want to buy this player and want to add memory, be afraid. Be very afraid.
