ispyonu's Full Review: Rio Nitrus Street (1.5 GB) MP3 Player
For me, the Rio is actually pretty durable. I give my electronics a beating and dropped my nitrus a bunch of times, but it never skipped a beat. I got mine new from ebay about 4 months ago and i guess it's a different generation since it doesn't have that little ugly red knob.
For the price I got it for, you really can't beat 1.5GB for $110 ratio...well...except for the new Dell DJ mini. =) 1.5GB is enough for me because I really don't care about storing 10000 songs on it since I'm not planning to listen to it 24/7. It's not like you can't add and delete the songs and what not. Battery life is pretty good, actually. Why worry about buying stupid alkaline batteries when you can just charge up a Lithuim one? In saying that, I'm pretty sure that'll bite me in the butt later if the internal battery goes out. =P But really, I'm not sure what everyone is complaining about with the battery-life. I had my nitrus hooked up to an FM Transmitter and accidently left it playing all night. When I woke up the next morning, it was still going with half of it's battery life left. That's a lot of life considering the size of the RIO itself. I usually carry around my charger with me just in case and listen to it while it's charging.
Charging. Now that's one of the problems I saw. The ports on top are too close together. If I'm trying to download while charging, it is almost impossible because of the lack of space on the top where the ports go in. Another problem is that ugly software. Making playlists are gay. They should have that option on the nitrus, like the Ipod. That knob is kinda stupid, too, because when you have it in your pocket without the lock on, the knob bumps up against stuff and changes the song. That little wheel on top is pretty cool when scrolling and selecting, but has no use when you want to back track up a level in the menu. The play options are pretty gay, too. It's too simple and doesn't provide many options for selecting the songs you want to play.
Conclusion: You get what you pay for. There are some quirks from RIO, but if you think about it...paying $110 for 1.5GB nitrus versus $130 for a 256mb flash player is pretty good. I got my money's worth.
