Cons: Not an all purpose Amplifier, Don't even try it with a pair of Subwoofers
The Bottom Line: Low Priced Name Brand Amplifier that produces great sound over a factory installed Amplifier.

| psymo's Full Review: Sony XM-552HX Car Amp |
I don't know what it was that caught my attention. Maybe it was the sleek Red color. Maybe it was Sony's reputation of being the one of the best electronics companies of all time. Either way I still made the right decision in choosing the Sony.
The Search
I needed a reliable Amplifier to power a pair of Coaxial After Market Sony Xplod Speakers that I installed in my Ford Aspire earlier this year. I shopped around a little, saw all the new technology. It was toward the end of the day when I made my way to the Sears Department store to see what they carried. That is when I found it, the Sony XM-552hx Amplifier. It was in the "Last year Close-Outs" Section and was calling my name.
Being the Smart consumer that I am, I compared it to some of it's Rival Amplifiers. Overall, it looked like a great Amplifier but compared to most of the others of it's kind, it was quite spendy. One-Hundred Dollars was the price. Now, Rockford Fosgate had a similar model for about Seventy dollars on sale. I went with the Sony Anyway.
The Installation
This is not the first time I have used a Sony product in my car. In fact, the better part of my car audio collection is Sony.
I found the installation to be quite simple, but seeing that this was not my first time installing an amplifier in a car, it was a given that I would have no problem. The Amplifier (Like all Amplifiers) did not come with instalation cables. I used some Sosche efx 300 Watt RMS Cables that I bought at Checker Auto for about Thirty dollars.
Sound Output
This amplifier served it's purpose by powering my Coaxials. I sounded great with it's high pass filter on. It has a low pass filter too and I tried hooking it up to my Sony XS-L1035 Subwoofers but it did not work well with them. It did not have enough power to run the Subwoofers.
Technical Specs
This Amplifier ran at 55 Watts by two channels at Four Ohms RMS saftly. It also ran 140 Watts bridged at Four Ohms RMS.
Sony says that it can go to be a 2 Ohm stable Amplifier but I did not try it. Heaven forbid someone giving this amp a One Ohm load.
Overall conclusion
I am glad I bought this Amplifier. Plain and simple. It performs it duty very well as a speaker amplifier and would be a must-buy to anyone looking to upgrade thier factory setup. I would avoid using this amplifier as a subwoofer Amplifier seeing it does not have enough power.
This is a great Amplifier and I would recommend it to everyone.
