| mole2000's Full Review: Sony CDX-CA810X Car CD Player |
I have had my Sony CDX-CA810 CD receiver/deck for 2 years and I've been very happy with it. I actually bought it refurbished on eBay for around $100. I use it with a Sony Xplode 760Watt Amp and two 12" Kicker Subwoofers.
I think the most impressive feature of this receiver is the "Dynamic Soundstage Organizer". This feature can bring out the treble and really increase the clarity of audio: song or voice. I was blown away comparing the quality of sound compared to my factory system. I replaced the factory system in my Dodge Dakota, and now moved it into my new 2006 Toyota Corolla. In both cars the Sony stereo significantly surpassed the sound quality of the factory stereos. It has 3 DSO settings you can adjust to your liking. In my Toyota Corolla, I swear the tweeters were not even putting out sound until I put in my Sony stereo and used this feature.
The receiver also comes with a remote...which although it's a cool feature, I have rarely if ever used.
It has pre-set EQ options which are useful depending on if I want to "bass out" or "chill out". You can also manually adjust Bass, Treble, and Subwoofer.
The face can change colors depending on which you prefer. This is nice, and gives you some aesthetic control so it matches your car better...or your mood. Also, it removes easily to hide or take with you.
The face actually folds down so you can put a CD in or take one out. This is a neat feature, and gives you a bigger screen to work with.
I was warned Sony's were not very durable when I bought this, but this stereo has outlasted the Pioneer I had before...so I am quite happy.
The only real down-side for me was that when I went to plug in my iPod, I had to purchase a special $60 adapter from the UK that emulates the Sony CD Changer, so that you can plug in your AUX input to where the CD Changer input would have gone. It works great now and I love the sound quality.
Altogether I've been very happy with this receiver, and have avoided having to change (buying the $60 adapter) because I am very content with it.
