| pichu210's Full Review: Sony CLIE® PEG-TH55 Handheld |
I never thought the day would come when I would become as dependent on a PDA as I have. Daily life just wouldn't run as smoothly as it does for me without my Sony Clei Peg-TH55. Sony's PDA's have some of the best features I have seen on handhelds. Here are my thoughts on the Clie.
First the one feature I am not crazy about. The wireless internet connection leaves much to be desired. Many pages cannot be connected with the browser making surfing tedious. The Peg is good for checking email when you are not somewhere where you can plug in, but this is the the only use I have for the wireless connection on this PDA.
The screen is large enough for all the uses of the Clie. The 320x480 screen is comparable to any of the others I have tried. Indoors the color and brightness are great. Outside, you have the same problems as with any other display on electronic equipment. Let's face it, all electronic displays are going to be harder to see in sunlight and you must make adjustments. The TH55 is no different.
I have had my Clie TH55 for a little over a year now. The battery life is starting to decrease, but not at an alarming rate. I don't know whether I will replace the battery or the PDA first. I don't tax my battery enough to consider the decrease in battery life a problem. I don't use my Clie to watch movies at all or listen to MP3's for a long period of time. I think that this saves a big drain on my battery.
There are many good features already downloaded and a lot of others that may be purchased.
Included features are the standards for everyday organizing like datebook, calender, lists and other organizational tools. You can also watch movies, view and take pictures and listen to MP3's.
A good place to find other software to download is from PalmGear.com. Guess where I learned that at. Right here on Epinions.
The Sony Clie Peg TH55 is a little pricier than some other models, but this is a case where you get what you pay for. The quality of the product along with the features offered make it stand out from some of the cheaper models.
One of the features that I use way more often than I thought I would is the voice recorder. When my life is busy and crazy, I find being able to verbally jot things down for myself very useful. The play back quality is good enough for this, but the recorder doesn't do really well if you are taping a speech or lecture. Taping from far away is too quiet and tinny to listen to.
The camera was a novelty at first, but isn't a feature I use very often anymore.
I find the design easy to understand and use. Some of the buttons are illogically placed, but this has not been a detriment to me or my use of this PDA.
I have been very happy with my Clie Peg TH55. I plan on keeping it for a while longer as it is still competitive with any new technology out there. When it is time to search for a new PDA, the Sony brand will be the first I look at.
