You've sold me! (Reply to this comment)

Wow! What an excellent review! I've been wanting to update my 3 1/2 year old F717, and you've just convinced me! Thank you for all of your time spent taking the different pics, and the large amount of time I'm sure it took to write your review! I've been concerned with my F717's color hues, and was wondering whether it was enough to ditch Sony over. It looks like I won't have to now, though! Thanks for the review!!!!!!!!!

Can we say Verbose? (Reply to this comment)

No offense sir, but unless you are being paid as an employee of epinions to review electronics, you have spent way too much time here.
I'm not disputing the points you make in your review. They are quite valid.
But is your length and depth of the review really necessary? I have researched and bought cars based on less info that you put into this review.
Details are great, but sometimes Less is more. You made your points in this review then you beat them to death to a most anal length.

Perhaps there should be a spot for OCD reviewers. Bring a big bowl of popcorn. You can make a night of it.

I am sure your faithful will indeed be equally verbose in their disdain for my reply. But as I don't read epinions but every few months and never bother to go check for replies, by all means, indulge yourselves. I certainly don't have the time to read replies. For I have to catch up on life after reading this review of near biblical length.

I have 2 Sony Mavicas, and I love them BOTH!! I just saw this camera advertised, and I think I am in love. Do you have any experience with the Mavicas? If so, how would you rate this camera to Sony's Mavica line?

I'd love to know whether you thought this was as good in terms of picture quality as the Canon Rebel and the Nikon D70.

I already own the Rebel, am now dithering between the D70 (the lack of a flash exposure comp in the rebel really bugs me) and this Sony. I know one is supposed to be a P and S and the other is a dSLR, but it seems you think this P and S is more suited for professionals than the Rebel dSLR - which could mean to say you think the quality distinction between a P and S and SLR no longer exists?

Arrgh!! The indecision!!

Best,
Renee
PS You really do deserve those hats for your camera reviews - they are excellent and oh so readable.

I have been looking at this camera (Reply to this comment)

and in the end decided in favor of a Digital Rebel. Mainly due to versatility of exchangable lenses and overall more intuitive user interface. (I know you din't particularily like the Digital Rebel interface, but I guess that's somewhat of a personal preference anyway.)

I found your review very informative, or at least the parts I was reading. I have to admit that this huge review kind of exceeded my attention span. ;-)

No need to go further (Reply to this comment)

Your review was excellent. I don't have to look further. I am a professional photographer, looking to merge into the digital arena (I have one other Sony and loved it), but really needed more options. This was one that I had considered, but now, you have sealed that deal for me. Excellent Review. Di

How does it work? “Quien Sabe, amigo”--- You’d have to ask one of Sony's engineering types, but my guess is that “emerald” is actually cyan.

RGB E mode? (Reply to this comment)
by martytdx
I understand the RGB and CMYK modes, but I've never heard of 'emerald'. How does that work, and how is it different than GREEN? Obviously, from your review, it does something significant since it gave such wonderful pictures. Just curious.

I always enjoy your reviews, although this one is obviously above my line of expertise. I enjoy the act of pointing and shooting, and wouldn't know what to do with all of the extra add-on's this camera has.

However, as I said it is great to read about what is out there from someone who obviously knows the in's and out's. Thanks,

Why don't the two of you get-together on a book, use your reviews and samples of your pictures for each camera you have tried. This would be a great help to new people getting into digital photography. You guys are good.
