Sony proves size doesn't matter!

Pros: Exceptionally high quality photos; light weight and pocketable form factor.

Cons: Requires expensive proprietary media called Memory Stick. Does not come with usuable software suite.

The Bottom Line: Amazing hi-quality photos, small light weight pocketable package, easy too use, and fastest shot to shot response time in its class.

1GQ's Full Review: Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P150 Digital Camera
Let me say upfront I'm not a professional photographer or even a photo hobbyist. I bought the camera because I wanted the absolute best point & shoot compact digital camera I could buy today. I've owned 7 previous digital cameras over the last 5 years. This model replaces my old Canon S400 so it has alot to live up too. First I must say I am quite impressed with Sony's multimedia tutorial on how to use a Sony digital camera. The only downside to the tutorial is the lack of content specific too this model; however the included paperback manual covers those features well.

Over the first 20 days of ownership I found that operating the camera in full auto mode generally yields spectacular results as long as there is plenty of ambient lighting. The photos are 3072 x 2304 pixels in size and roughly 3MB in size and are incredibly vivid and lifelike capturing accurate colors and razor sharp details. In low lighting situations like in a nightclub its almost impossible to yield a good shot in full auto mode.

Fortunately for me Sony has incorporate Scene modes which includes a Twilight setting which generally yields excellent shots in low light situations. There are a slew of other Scene modes to help maximize the imaging capabilities of the camera with no fuss of fiddling with manual options. In my opinion there are more than enough
manual settings for me too fiddle with however I can see how a camera enthusiast may feel they are missing some. My old 4MP Canon S400 had more manual options.

One of the key points that led me to buy this camera over the Canon S500 was the unit's ability to capture high quality video clips. The only limit to how much time you can capture is the amount of available space you have on the Memory Stick. Don't expect to capture long video clips even with a 1GB Memory Stick; at maximum quality you'll only get 12 minutes of recording time at 1GB capacity! I feel Sony did not employ MPEG4 compression here because it would probably damage their HandyCam sales; 100% our loss!

In the box you'll find the usual hand strap, a battery, usb cable, a/v cable (for use with TV), and power adapter. Surprisingly though Sony went way cheap on the packaged software; the included suite is truly worthless and a total waste of time too install. This is quite surprising since this is their flagship P series camera and competers like Canon bundle top notch software suites. You'll also find a 32MB Sony Memory Stick. This is only enough memory to take 9 photos at full auto mode. To effectively use this camera with maxium quality you will need to purchase atleast a 256MB Memory Stick. I suggest the Sandisk 512MB Memory Stick which can be found for about $89.

In conclusion Sony may not have a legacy to show as a camera manufacturer, but combine their undisputed electronic skills with legendary Carl Zeiss optics and you the result is the best blend of high quality imaging and portability on the market today.
