| lobster4lunch's Full Review: Sony Walkman D-NE510 Personal CD Player |
After getting over two years out of my last Sony portable CD player, I knew what brand to look for. I walked into Best Buy expecting to pay $50 for a Sony Walkman. After looking for only a few seconds, this one caught my eye. 490 songs on one disc! After fighting myself to spend $72.99 on a CD player few a few minutes, I went with it and haven't been dissapointed yet.
The Atrac3 Plus system is amazing! With the included Simple Burner software, you simply insert a music disc of your choice and it will compress the songs and burn it on a blank disc. Then, put the disc in the Walkman, and you are ready to go after a few seconds of loading. It has a very neat way of organizing your music through folders you name when you burn the disc. You scroll through the folders and songs with an easy to use jog dial. It is really nice to have all your music on one or two discs when on the move. Atrac3 discs do not play in other CD players, however. The Walkman also plays CD-Rs and CD-RWs, since it is MP3 compatible. It also shows CD text with any disc that has it, Atrac3, or otherwise.
The D-NE510 is also equipped with a two stage G-Protection system that absolutely skip-free, no matter what. It gets 40 hours of battery life with an Atrac3 disc, slightly less with a regular CD. It has three bass boost settings: off, stage 1 and stage 2, which allows you to find the perfect sound. It is a shame it comes with such poor headphones. They get distorted at even mild volume levels, not to mention the fact that the headphones are ugly and cheap looking. It perplexes me why Sony puts junk headphones on high end model and yet on the cheaper models it includes the nicer looking and sounding Street Style headphones. Other than that, I have no complaints about this wonderful CD player.
