Eww. I've not had any of these sorts of issues yet in about 35 hours of use. How old is your Sony?

Very, very impressive review. I own the D-NF610, which seems to be the big brother to your model. Mine includes an AM/FM/TV/WEATHER tuner. Just a note, you can see the time remaining on an MP3 file, you just have to wait for the scrolling of the CD name/artist (can't remember) to stop. I always have Winamp set to time remaining, I love knowing that for some reason.
Personally I think this is probably the best of the crop right now. The player's mechanism itself is rather flaky though. The mechanism is noisy on my model, I can hear it over the engine when I'm in the car, and it seems to stumble. I think the firmware/software is somewhat buggy as well, as once I opened the lid while the stupid thing was trying to read a badly scratched CD, and the CD kept spinning! I had to remove the CD, and pull the batteries to get it to stop!
It's unfortunate that Panasonic's offerings are all flimsy and gimmicky, usually they make very nice products. The only thing I wish Sony had was the error correction Panasonic has. I can throw any scratched disc at my old SX-420 (ugly teal one) and it would play fine. My NF610 gets stuck in an endless loop on the same CD. I can hear the lens mechanism scrolling back... and forth... and back... and forth...
Not to mention the time I was in the car, and the LCD decided it didn't want to display anymore. Another battery pull fix.
Go figure!
