Pros: easy to use, good quality recording, lighting, "steady shot option", "nightshot option", USB capabilities, zoom
Cons: battery charge life, software included was difficult and didn't have desired features
The Bottom Line: If you need good quality camcorder for home videos and such that also offers great features, usb etc, (and doesn't break the bank), I would certainly recommend it.

| summersmama's Full Review: Sony Handycam® DCR-TRV260 Digital-8 Camcorder |
I bought the Handycam (DCR-TRV260), so that I would be able to send videos of my daughter and I to my husband who's currently in Iraq.
When trying it out in the store, I was pretty impressed with the price to start, and the fact that it was digital and had USB capabilities (so I'd be able to edit easier, and make copies of our recordings to disc) I then noticed the 990x digital zoom (which I tried out in the store), and I believe it to be a wonderful feature to have. I decided to buy it because of the price, USB capabilities, trusted name brand, and the features it offers.
I've been using this cam, for several months now, and enjoy using it. The features are very easy to use and to figure out. I also like the nightshot option, although it doesn't pick up for long distances. I haven't myself found a reason to use it, but I've tested it out several times, and it works well. I also like the lighting option, as you can chose whether to keep it on constantly while filming, have it adjust itself or leave it off. It records clearly and and captures color well. I liked that it has "Steady Shot", which actually helps me a great deal, as my recording doesn't come out nearly as shaky looking as it has in the past on other cameras.
I am now updating this review to provide more information which may be useful. My 15 month old daughter recently pulled our Handycam off of the counter by the shoulder strap. I was certain that would be the end of my handycam, however it still functions the same as before, and luckily no parts were broken. So I'd like to add that, yes, indeed this product is quite durable!
The handycam includes most items needed for use, including: lens cap, shoulder strap, USB cable, one battery, and also the battery charger. I wish that it had included a carrying case, but I suppose that most camcorders don't.
I also like the fact that the handle on the cam uses velcro, so that you can adjust it to fit your hand. That makes me feel much more secure in holding it, as I can secure it tightly to my hand. The velcro seems to be very strong as well, so I have no fear of it coming loose and dropping to the floor.
The battery doesn't stay charged for as long if you're using the lcd panel, but I guess thats to be expected. The software that came with it, that you use to edit, make and convert your movies to disc, I found hard to use and I also thought that the software didn't have enough features. I use my handy cam with Windows Movie Maker instead and it suits my needs well.
Overall I think its a great product, especially for the price. I find it very easy to use. Its a good camera for home videos and such, and has been serving me very well, for that purpose.
