Pros: Good in low-light, lots of features, hot shoe, long battery life.
Cons: A lot of features.
The Bottom Line: It's in the sweet spot of feature and price for a 2Mp digital camcorder. Extremely low battery use. Look for closeouts as it's an older model.

| iddgit's Full Review: Sony Handycam® DCR-TRV70 Mini DV Camcorder |
I looked at all of the features I wanted in a new camcorder: digital, good optical zoom, long battery life, 2 megapixel stills, low light ability, $400 or less, built-in flash, hot shoe, adjustable eyepiece (both angle & focus), easy access to controls, large lens (for better low light work), and the larger CCD chip. The only camera I could find for under $1500 which had all of these (except the $400 price tag) was this model.
I've had it ~ 8 months and still love it. The video quality in standard light is great and, if I need it, I can pop the $30 led light on it and get really great shots indoors. Took it to Niagara falls a few weeks back, got great outdoor shots even with the harsh backlight (with the backlight feature turned on). Easy to use, simple to care for, fast rewinds, eash to change memory chip (uses std sony chip so I can share my chips from my sony still camera).
One piece of advice, set the still picture resolution up above 480x640 for decent stills.
I bought the large battery to go with it...I'm still getting over 3 hours of constant use per charge (assuming you don't turn it off and on a lot or use the external light). Using the view finder instead of the LCD helps save as well.
