Thanks for the in-depth review. I bought 2 TRV-80s about a year ago: one for my company and one for me. We've used it to produce professional CD's to give to our clients. I bought an external mike for it,as the built-in mike didn't sound professional enough. I'm a beginner, but I didn't want a camcorder than limited me either. I have Adobe's Premier 6.5 video program that is also way above my skill level at present, but I'm learning!

What is also nice is that although I bought the TRV-80 almost a year ago, it hasn't depreciated in value.

Thank you for a very in-depth review. My first grandchild is on the way and I am shopping for my first camcorder. I was looking at the Canon GL2 but your review has swayed me to the Sony DCR-TRV80. It should do everything I need and more, and I will save a lot of money. Thanks.
