The Bottom Line: Absolutely! If I haven't communicated why this is a great camera by now, I'm not sure I can say anything here that will change your mind.
joebrandon1977's Full Review: Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P100 Digital Camera
Just got engaged so we were in the market for our first digital camera to capture our engagement parties, wedding ceremony, reception, and honeymoon and buying a house!
Luckily the P100 was on the market to make this decision a "no brainer" for us!
I'm very particular and usually a researcher, but when I saw this camera it really was an easy decision for us (me). The attractive design is what grabs your attention immediately and sets this camera apart from anything I've seen. But of course dad always said, looks aren't everything.
Well, good for him and good for Sony because this camera is as attractive with the operational system/design as the outside. Sweet! It's like falling in love over again! I'm not going to pretend I'm a camera expert and quote a shutter time for you, but from a first time digital camera user, the P100 allows you to take it out of the box and use it immediately--but has enough options and features that it will take me a couple of months to get aquatinted with it..good for all those engagement parties I'll be at..I'll keep myself entertained while the future wifey is "girl talking"!
Note to everyone: If you register your camera online with sony.com, they give you a 20% discount on accessories. I went ahead and bought a 256 MG memory, a Semi-soft Cyber-shot® Carrying Case LCM-PHA, and the cool Sony Cradle made specifically for the P100. So if you don't want to plug the little black wire running across your desk into the side of your camera each time and hook up the UPB port to send the pics to your computer, just treat yourself to one of these cradles--then sit the camera in it and it acts as a charger and sends the pics to your computer or TV...and comes with a remote! That's cool points even if I never use the remote, right?
I also looked at the Sony W1 and while the 2.5" LCD screen is impressive at first glance, it was grainy and the design was to bulky and square. I've also read that the screen has been damaged in normal use from several users--the big screen being exposed to possible damage. I'm sure ours will be thrown in bags, suitcases and around the car and I didn't even want to think about that. The P100 has a nice 1.8" LCD and looks great! I've been very impressed with this camera and expect it will last me for a while.
Good Luck to us All!
