marshallkarp's Full Review: Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P100 Digital Camera
I bought my Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P100 about a week ago from New Egg. At the time, it was the lowest price I could find from an internet discounter, that had a positive review on Epinions.com. No problems at all, the camera even arrived a day earlier than expected.
I took peoples' advice and read the manual first on the features. Also, other people were right, the supplied 32 mb memory stick is puny and for the money you pay, it should come with at least a 128 or 256. I bought a 512 mb at Staples, so I was set to go.
Since last week, I have carried the camera everywhere. It is fall and I drive in my line of work, so I have been taking nice fall color pictures.
The camera powers on quick and is very easy to use. So far, I have kept it in auto mode, though I have used it to make several movies.
This is my first digital camera. I have used a Minolta QTsi for the past 10 years, but wanted to change due to security in my travel since 9/11. I race to catch planes at airports, but I need to get the camera and film visually inspected. Not only that, they need to swab out every film canister and put the swabs in an analyzer. After looking at people with digital cameras going right through security, I have had it with traveling with a film camera.
I did alot of research as to which camera. I am a diver and I needed one with an underwater housing accessory, so that narrowed my choices. I settled on the P100 as my digital video camera is a Sony and I am impressed with their quality.
My Compaq Prsario R3240 laptop computer has a built in slot for the Memeory Stick Pro cards. It is a simple matter to take pictures, take the memory stick out, put it in the computer card slot, then do whatever I want with the pictures. I have accounts at Yahoo pictures and Sony's Imagestation, so I have been putting my shots there and wiping out the images and video on the card.
As for picture quality, to my untrained eye, the quality has been very good and I can even improve on the quality with the MS Picture It software. It is simple as I have the software do it automatically.
As for the video quality, my digial video camera quality is much better. I only used the video setting for the halftime band show at the HS football game last night, as my son plays drum n the band. The sound was fine, but the quality was somewhat pixilated. If I had something real important to video, I would use the DV camera over the P100, but I would use the P100 in a pinch.
Overall I am very happy and satisfied with the camera. My wife likes it and she wants one, too.
