| wick5449's Full Review: Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P100 Digital Camera |
I have a Canon Powershot G6 which I like very much. The only drawback is it is chunky, and not pocketable. I bought this Sony for the size, and reputation Sony has earned for results. I was not disappointed. This is a small camera, If you have large hands it may be somewhat awkward to use. It has a manual feature, but settings are minimal. It is, in my opinion, a point and shoot snapshot camera. It does this well, pictures are generally very good, and it is a very user friendly camera. Start up time is almost immediate, battery life exceptional (takes a camera specific battery, so you might need to buy an extra for a trip ($50) but one charge will last you most events. It takes a memory stick PRO, but the standard unit works fine, just has less capacity. The on board flash does well for shots less than 10-12 feet, sometimes overexposing very close shots, but generally does well within it's limitations. "Red Eye" can be a nuisance, but that is the same in almost all cameras with an on board flash (which is to say just about all Point and shoots)
I'm not going into great detail, and specifics. I found this to be a very handy, and capable camera Provides excellent pictures, reasonable software, and ease of use.
I will use my Canon if I need to use more detailed settings, and an additional flash. It has more features, but costs twice the money. As far a snapshots go, you wouldn't see the difference in the results. This Sony should meet the needs of the wide majority of users.
