Cons: Access speed, Remote functionality, Unit size & Bulk.
The Bottom Line: I agree that Sony should be ashamed of this offering. A certain level of quality is expected. I would gladly pay more for Easier use and faster disc access.
compdvdman's Full Review: Sony DVP-CX985V Multi-disc DVD Player
O.k. This unit is reasonably priced.
And can clear some serious shelf space,
getting rid of all of your cases...
but the functionality and speed of queing
up movies is so poor, that I'm sorry I went this route. I purchased a Pioneer 300 CD player unit a few years ago, and was expecting similar speed, and functionality, but it has NOT materialized with this Sony DVD unit.
Something simple like punching in a specific slot number and hitting play is not even possible.
The function that they suggest for this...(skipping slots)
is to hit the + key and the number of slots you want to skip.
It takes so long for a new selection to load and start playing, that I often load a new movie...leave the room to get coffee or something...and then return..
it's simply really Slowwwwww....
My normal protocol for most new electronic units, is to combine the remote into my multi function remote...and store the original unit remote, in some dark drawer somewhere. Hoping to gain about 90% of the functionality of the original remote, on my multi remote.
Forget about that with this unit. You are better off simply placing the unit high enough in your rack, so you don't need to continually bend down...and work the "dial" (for number selection) on the unit, combined with the basic functions on the remote.
I have not had the problem of scratched discs... but after reading all the other reviews...I'm worried about that..
