| greatalfredini's Full Review: Sony KD-34XBR960 34 inch TV |
One rule of thumb I like to apply to purchasing anything: long after buying it, you should feel pleasure when looking at the item, and feel lucky that you made that choice long ago.
That is how I feel about my XBR 960. Every time I turn it on I feel an anticipation of pleasure at being blown away by the extreme instensity of the colors. While everything looks natural, the image is amazingly vivid. I like to describe it by saying "It looks like every color is on fire".
One caveat to my review is that my source signal is almost never HDTV, it is regular-resolution TiVo or live TV from DirecTV at regular resolutions. When I have viewed DVDs in my 480p player, things look a bit dead but all I have to do is switch to "movie" color mode and my great colors are back.
My low-res sources are probably the reason when I saw a Sony LCD at the store, being fed a super-hi-res image, I was forced to admit it looked way better than my XBR960. I imagine my TV can match that sharpness if I hooked up the best possible source to it.
I did have to get it serviced once (because my cat peed into it) and saw that it's designed so the technician just pulls out the TV's "motherboard" and can take it to the shop, rather than lugging the whole set weighing hundreds of pounds to the store.
The only con I can think of is that it's a large and heavy set, but it's not too bulky.
I would strongly recommend this set, it's simply gorgeous to look at every time.
