| soupcraze's Full Review: Sony Grand WEGA KDF-70XBR950 70 in. HDTV LCD TV |
The Sony KDF-70XBR950 is... Well, it's so much better than sex? This Sony isn't just 70" in size, but it's also an HDTV, and it's cheap! This is what the Grand Wega is meant to be! I have had the chance to experience one of these in a newly bought home theater system totalling tens of thousands of dollars, and let's say that this was the perfect centerpiece for all of that. Well, here's what I found with the Sony KDF-70XBR950:
-Price-
*The Sony KDF-70XBR950 can be purchased for around $6,000. That isn't cheap for a TV, but compared to the prices of many other flat screen TVs and HDTVs, plasmas, LCD, etc... You get a lot of TV for the price here! The 70" is absolutely huge, and a far cry from the ~"40 and ~50" TVs that you usually see going for thousands of dollars on the market. Let's face it, a larger screen size really makes the TV experience a much more happy one. The Sony KDF-70XBR950 is a 70" with unsurpassed picture quality by any other brand, and you also get a whole lot of features with the Sony KDF-70XBR950. If you want an amazing centerpiece to a hi-fi home theater system, then the Sony KDF-70XBR950 is quite possibly more than perfect!
-Features-
*The Sony KDF-70XBR950 does have some pretty nice features that come with it. One of the most interesting features that you find on the high-end Sony TVs is the fact that you can plug in your memory sticks. This allows you to have image, video, and MP3 playback. So if you use a lot of other Sony systems such as a camcorder, Vaio computer, or other such things, then you would find the memory stick feature quite useful. The Sony KDF-70XBR950 has an integrated ATSC tuner. Also it does have i-Link interfaces. Then there are a lot more things that have to do with the images on the TV which enhance the picture, simply put...
-Picture Quality-
*The picture quality on the Sony KDF-70XBR950 is crystal clear and sharp. The large picture size didn't make a crappier picture, but the large picture size just made watching video absolutely breathtaking. This is much better than sex, or at least if you're an A/V-phile and really are into video, this might be the greatest thing that you've ever experienced. The Sony KDF-70XBR950 has incredibly high screen resolution and has other enhancing features that give the Sony KDF-70XBR950 unsurpassed picture quality. If you're using DVDs with the TV via component video, brace yourself for some of the utmost highest quality picture that you've ever seen. The Sony KDF-70XBR950 also has an integrated ATSC tuner. This is serves as an amazing HDTV if you want a very large and high-quality picture.
-Sound-
*The Sony KDF-70XBR950 does provide fairly good sound via a 30 Watt speaker system. This is of course not as good as using a receiver, but if you're going to be using this television as a stand-alone, then the speakers should be able to provide good quality sound. Just like the picture, the sound isn't dissapointing.
-Inputs & Outputs-
*The I/Os on the Sony KDF-70XBR950 are an absolute work of art. You can do so much with all of this. It features numerous composite and S-video outputs, and also has many inputs for audio. But one thing I really find fascinating is that the Sony KDF-70XBR950 has a TOSLINK output which will deliver the best sound possible to an A/V receiver.
-The Verdict-
*The Sony KDF-70XBR950 is probably one of Sony's most finest televisions ever built. It delivers unbelievable performance at a lower price when you compare to it to other competitors which just can't catch up to Sony. The 70" screen is absolutely huge, and will definitely make a great centerpiece to any hi-fi home theater system. This should be used in large rooms, since the 70" maybe too large for some. Overall though, I'd have to say that this is yet another Sony product where you get much more than what you paid for.
