This is a good deck with some very useful features, but some annoying things as well. I bought it after using a Sony R50 for a year, and I find myself wishing that this deck did some things like the R50. For example, inserting a track mark on the R50 during playback takes one step; on this deck, you have to confirm it. This is very annoying. Also annoying is the fact that you have to toggle through the display options to get a level meter for recording, and when it is being displayed, it is not very easy to use. Other annoying things-reading the TOC and writing anything to the disc takes a long time (at least 5 seconds, depending on how much editing you have been doing).
I use the deck to record specific shows off of the radio, and I usually grab a disc from a pile and throw it in. I then have to wait almost 10 seconds before the deck is ready to play. It doesn't sound like much, but it is annoying. In general, I could do without the confirmation prompts before every action (if I want to delete entire contents, I push a button to bring up the menu, twirl the knob to get to the action I want, press another button to select the option, and then press another button to confirm. It then takes a few seconds to do it. This is entirely too much effort.)
Features I wish it had-auto track marking every 5 minutes or so, so that I could jump around on a disc I recorded without having to hold down the fast forward button. Oh yeah, another really annoying thing-when I push stop in the middle of a disc, the next time I push play, it doesn't take up where it left off, but rather at the beginning. So I have to remember to put in a track mark whenever I stop playing a disc if I want to resume from that place when I come back in the room. My R50 doesn't do this, and I don't think this deck should.
Well, I sound very negative, and I probably use this deck differently than most people, who use it for copying cd's. For the money, it is very good, and I love md's, but I wish this unit didn't have so many annoying things about it...
