jbach36's Full Review: Sony Net MD Walkman MZ-N510 Personal MiniDisc Play...
Been a while since I wrote a review here (also been a while since I got anything new to write about) so here goes
This Epinionis about the Sony MZ-N510 NetMD Misidisc player
The best thing I can point out about this player is the NetMD aspect, on older Minidisc recorders (like my older Sony MZ-R500) the disc was recorded in real time, so if you recorded 4 hours of music, it took 4 hours to record, not exactly a fast undertaking, also titling the disc and the songs on board took forever (to do it you used the control keys on the unit, and scrolled each letter, took FOREVER!). Now, with NetMD, the songs copy to disk at up to 32x normal speed, and the song title get's copied with it, and you can also title the MD itself at the same time, these 2 features alone help give the NetMD recoredrs the ability to compete with the flash based MP3 players (HD based players still have the advantage of more space onboard, and in the Creative labs HD based Nomad, they also have environmental audio settings).
Anyway, the Sony MZ-N510 is a newer player, I purchased mine at Wal-Mart for about $150.00, and it came with the remote (wired), the AC adapter, and the car kit , which includes the Cassette adapter, DC power adapter, and a car remote, it also comes with a very durable carry case for the player.
The sound quality is excelent, as would be expected from Sony, and the discs are fairly inexpensive esp when you can put up to 4 hours of great sounding music on them.
it uses 1 AA battery, I tend to use AA Lithium batteries from Everready, they seem to last forever, I used my older player for a year, about 2 hours a night, and went through maybe $10.00 of batteries (4 of them) not bad at all, and this new one seems to be as good on the batteries as the older one.
Improvements over the MZ-R500 I have are, the corded remote, which gives me full control over the player (no display though) let's me select play, stop, fwd or rev, volume, and group play.
Another improvement is in the sound enhancement, the MZ-R500 only gave two levels of bass and no bass, the new one (MZ-N510) has 2 adjustable presets, with seperate bass and treble adjustments (much better)
anyway, I better go for now, I'll add more tomorrow
Stores more than five hours of music on an 80-minute minidisc; speedy USB connection minimizes recording time Compatible with MP3, WMA, and WAV music ...More at Amazon Marketplace
