Record from multiple source (PC, Digital In and Analogue In) - this is a very nice feature allowing you to dub from your fm stereo, computer, compact disc, and digital video disc.
Net MD portable recorder MP3/WMA/WAV compatibility - this means very simple drop and drag operation for converting the formats to play on your Sony MD Walkman.
Max 32 x faster music data transfer (high speed recording) from PC - this means you can dub literally a couple hundred of songs in two hours or less.
Easy PC editing with SonicSony application software - if you are really good with a computer you could essentially make your remixes using this feature but only as good as your talent to line up the music.
Up to 56 hours playback with 1 x AA optional Sony Alkaline batteries (not supplied). Cool feature the playing time indicates how long the batteries will last during continuous playing.
New Slim Stick type remote control nice but needs improvement.

MDLP allows you to cram it up with a bunch of songs.Minidisc "Long Play". Because "MDLP" A encoding method for audio on Minidisc that offers two modes: one gives 160 minutes stereo ("LP2"), the second gives 320 minutes stereo ("LP4"). LP2 is stereo encoded (each channel is independent), LP4 is joint-stereo (both channels are coded simultaneously).

ATRAC TYPE S for high quality sound. ATRAC (Adaptive TRansform Acoustic Coding) divides the 16 bit 44.1 KHz digital signal into 52 sub-bands in the frequency domain (after a Fast Fourier Transform). The sub-bands in the low frequencies are finer than the ones in the high frequency range. A psycho-acoustic transfer function that takes advantage of the masking effect and the absolute hearing threshold then removes enough information to reduce the data stream to 1/5th of the original size. Each channel receives that treatment separately (the Sony MZ-1 portable MD recorder features one ATRAC encoder/decoder chip per channel). PASC (Precision Adaptive Sub-band Coding -- used in Philips now defunct DCC [Digital Compact Cassette]) divides the digital signal into equally spaced sub-bands and removes less information (to only 1/4th of the original size). PASC is essentially the MPEG Layer 1 audio standard (can be decompressed with MPEG Layer 1 players after a trivial preprocessing step).

[Suck Factor] ~ aka What I hate!
Does not have some of the cooler features such as a backlit LCD and the remote is basic lacking many different advanced controls available on higher dollar MiniDisc players.

It is available in Silver, Blue or Red for those who do not care for your everyday black portable audio equipment. However the red tends to be more of an Orangish-red than a true red color.

AC adapter is an option. An AC adapter is necessary if you wish to power your player directly from a wall socket. This is a useful feature if you wish to save your batteries for when you're roaming and save your pocket some money.
Rechargable batteries is also an option. The long-term cost is lower with good rechargeable batteries such as Ni-MH which are great for not having "memory effect" when not completly discharging it will not decrease the normal capcity to operate. This option avoids the expense of having to regularly buy AAA batteries, the non-rechargeable standard.

[Overall]
The Sony MZ-N510 Personal MiniDisc Player provides as much bang for buck for under $140 (one-hundred forty) dollars. It is great because it is a good changeup on the eye for the normal everyday white or black minidisc player. This thing has 3 (three) colors to choose from much better than Henry Ford concept of you can get one of any color as long as it is black.
Plus it has plenty of optional accessories that you may or may not want to purchase, but I highly recommend that you get the car kit (if you can use it), rechargable batteries, and sony minidisc.
The ease of recording is great for somebody looking to have her/his first portable minidisc walkman, but not enough for a pro.
My only concern is that there should be able to purchase an extended warranty directly through them rather than through a department store such as Sears or CircuitCity.
The warranty is no better than the industry standard. Which is understandable because Sony makes electronics that are well known to last well over five years atleast if not more than decade (ten years). I just think if that really stand behind their products as they claim they would offer a more comprehensive warranty or at least a some sort of better warranty.
[Final Thought]
I have found theSony S2 Sports Net MD WalkmanŽ MZ-S1 MiniDisc recorder to be the most satisfying minidisc player that I have used or owned so far. The Sony MZ-N510 Personal MiniDisc Player is your good basic minidisc player great for anybody own as their first one.
