Pros: Lots of Storage Space, fairly small in size, battery life is supposed to be excellent
Cons: Virtually no way of using with a Mac
The Bottom Line: From what I've heard this is a great player, but as of September 1st, 2003, it does not work with a Mac. I would recommend it only to Microsoft users

I have been shopping for a music playing device to take to the gym for a while and I finally decided I would try the Sony MZ-NE410 based on the storage capacity and the battery life compared to an mp3 player. I didn't think that it was going to be compatible with my iMac running OS 10.2.6 but since the guy in the audio department at Best Buy assured me that it would work, I gave it a shot.
I got the thing home and opened it up. It was a little thicker than I had expected, but that wasn't a big deal. I began trying to set it up and got everything hook-up but I couldn't get any software on my computer to recognize the player. The system profiler saw it and recognized correctly, but I didn't have a program that could transfer files to it, nor did it up show up as an external hard drive like the guy at Best Buy had said it would. So after a little more digging I figured out that there really was no way that it would work. I went to the Apple website and read several different postings in their help area that were all asking about the same thing. Unfortunately there's really nothing that can be done, short of recording onto the mini discs in analog mode where you just plug it into headphones out plug and record like you would with a tape deck. But then you only get 80 minutes of poorer quality recording. So until Sony decides to work with Apple instead of pretending they don't exist, I'm out of luck.
