Pros: Works great in playing music from minidiscs.
Cons: Trying to get music onto the minidisc.
The Bottom Line: Go buy a CD player that plays mp3's or a mp3 player like the ipod.

| platinumg's Full Review: Sony Net MD Walkman MZ-NF610 Personal MiniDisc Pla... |
I've had this MD for awhile and I've found it more and more useless and more of a hassle than it's worth.
Description:
The Net MD Walkman copies music onto a minidisc, can fit about 4 albums on 1 minidisc at lowest quality setting. The walkman works like a CD player so that you can easily change minidiscs. The buttons on the player are easy to use and the display is ok, a little small. The MD comes with Sony's signature walkman opertable plug in with display. This walkman also comes with a AM/FM radio as well, note that the radio is only operatable with the plug in.
My beef with this thing is Sony's OpenMG media file compression format. Think of it as Sony's exclusive *.mp3 file format. You can't use minidiscs unless it's in the OpenMG format (*.omg). Sure you can get about 60 songs onto one minidisc all via USB connection pretty quick. What takes forever is changing other media formats, ie CD's, MP3's, WMA's, etc.., into OpenMG files. It takes about 1.5-2 hours just to change 60 song files into OpenMG. To top all of that off, the sonic stage program that comes with the MD is horrible. It's runs slow on any computer. Sonic Stage also doesn't allow transfers of the files over 3X. For example, let's say I copy a song onto 3 different minidiscs. After that I can no longer copy the file or move it. It's considered "copywritten". You can't even overwrite the file because Sonic Stage stores information on all files put through it.
If you want a walkman that is easy to use I suggest a CD player that can play mp3's or a mp3 player. The mp3 player may have alot less memory but atlest you don't have to deal with Sony's monopolization of media formats.
