We purchased this grinder to replace a manual grinder, one where you have to hold the button down to grind.
I'll start with the good points.
1. It looks pretty cool.
2. Not very loud compared to other grinders.
That's it.
Bad points.
1. It is a mess! Our last grinder by mr.coffee I thought was messy. This is bad compared to it.
2. The anti-static collection bin sticks more coffee to it than my last grinder with no anti-static.
3. When you remove the bin, there is a lid you have to remove, it has no handle... you have to stick your fingers in the port where the grinder sends the grounds, getting you fingers messy.
4. It does not stop at the preset grind amount. If you fill the hopper and set the grind amount on 5 cups, you had better beware! This machine will grind the whole hopper. We tried setting the coarseness to different levels, it didn't really change how long it runs. I set it on 1 cup and then measured how much it ground... 6 cups worth.
5. If you get any little grounds in the channel that the hopper cover sets in, the machine will not work. There is a tiny button that disables the machine when the lid is not on 100%. These little inevitable grounds stop the lid from completely seating and the grinder won't turn on.
6. Loading, getting it to work, and emptying it into your coffee machine takes more time than the purely manual machines where you have to hold down the button to operate.
7. Did I mention how messy this thing is?
My recommendation is not to buy this one. I'm moving on to another brand. I know I'll have to shell out a few more bucks, but I cannot take this anymore.
