syamg's Full Review: Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) Console
Ok, so I admit it - at first I didn't think I was going to like the Sony PlayStation Portable at all. I've never much been a fan of hand held gaming devices, but the multimedia potential of this device had me interested. I mean playing games, surfing the web, watching movies and tv all on one device sounded great, right?
So, I got one at launch. Yeah, after a lot of skepticism, I ended up being an early adopter. And all these years later, I'm still proud of that.
While I still find it a little heavy (I haven't upgraded to the new version), overall it's a great device.
Game Selection is pretty good - anyone should be able to find something interesting to play (either in disc format, or on the PlayStation network). Game graphics are great, speakers sound pretty good.
My PlayStation Portable is set up to access my cable tv through the Location Free Player, so I can watch that while playing consoles on the TV - or I can even access my cable remotely (which dad is still totally amazed by - PSP FTW). I can also play certain PlayStation 3 games on the PSP, and stream movies from the 3's hard drive to it. (All this is achieved through official programs by the way, my PSP is not hacked.)
While it is not exactly pocket size, it still quite lives up to the 'portable' in its name - but you HAVE to get a screen protector. Without that magical clear wrap of thin plastic, your poor screen will soon look like it's been used as a feline scratch post - seriously protect it like it is gold, you will thank me later.
