orwin's Full Review: Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) Console
I've had a good expereince with the PSP as both a game console, and a media player. This was purchased originally just to play games on, after selling my aging Sega Nomad. The unit is fairly small, offers better graphics and a larger screen than the Nintendo DS.
The Good:
Small and lightweight Rechargeable (and you can get extra batteries too) Large screen Nice MP3 playback features and super easy to use (no messing around with bloated 'management' software like some of the popluar media players) Integrates nicely with the PS3 system (remote play, access to media stored on PS3 via internet etc) Customizable screen backgrounds, colours Built in WiFi, including a web browser, streaming radio, and numerous game demo's that can be downloaded and installed for free from Sony's website Skype
The Bad: Can't recharge the unit through the USB port. No 'bass boost' or 'loudness' control for audio playback, however it does have an EQ with a few presets The shiny screen is sometimes hard to see due to the reflections. A matte surfaced screen would be much better Game selection is not as good as what is available on the Nintendo DS. Bottom of unit scratches very easily if set down.
Overall the Playstation Portable is a good product, and seems to be continuously updated with new features from Sony. Some things that would be nice to see added would be a notepad or calendar/scheduling function, a calculator, and capability for other instant messenger services such as Yahoo or ICQ, rather than just Skype.
