Pros: Quick and easy ripping and transferring,Sound quality is good,Cheap, Replaceable battery, standard AA
Cons: Software is memory hog, in theory you're Limited to Sony Connect music downloads
The Bottom Line: The software is good at burning and managing music files. It doesn't skip. It's quick and pretty easy to use. Disappointed in downloading capabilities from music service.

It has been pretty easy to rip CD's and burn them to the MD Walkman through my PC. I downloaded the software, set up the basic stuff and began ripping CD's without reading the directions, however to customize it to your preferences you should read the manual. It's pretty easy to read. The sound is pretty good, you can manipulate the bass & treble if you read the directions. When you resume playing it starts from where you turned it off, even in the middle of the song. You can use the group feature to create a folder and store all the songs from one album, or whatever mix you create, so you can skip through groups instead of individual songs. The display is small but okay. It scrolls the name of the song for the first few seconds then shows the timer, but you can change it to continuously scroll the song. It has 3 recording speeds. I use LP4 (highest compression) and get just under 40 songs on one 80 minute mini disc. To store music on your PC through the SonicStage software, the CD has to have the "Compact Disc" logo on it. If it doesn't have the logo you can use the included Simple Burner software, which will rip the entire CD directly to the mini disc, but you can't transfer the music from the mini disc to your PC. My Sony Psyc came with 5 free downloads from Connect.com. To download music from Connect, anti-virus, firewall, pop-up blocker, accelerator, etc, have to be disabled. Then for some strange reason I had to play the music before it would transfer to the MD Walkman. Don't know if it's just an idiosyncrasy with my computer, the music files or the software. It will import free downloads from Amazon.com. I haven't tried any of the other music services, but Sony says they don't work directly with the MD Walkman, but you can burn to a CD and then rip the CD. I bought it because I didn't want to install a CD burner in my old computer and I'm not sure my PC can handle burning CD's without a meltdown. And with mini discs there is no limit to the music, just a limit to how many mini discs you can fit in your pockets.
