| dhilton3's Full Review: Sony RDR-GX300 DVD Recorder |
My old Sharp VCR was making enough noise to wake the dead so I decided to buy a DVD Recorder. Got the Sony RDR-GX300 because I have a Sony TV that I really like and a Sony universal remote that runs all the components in my system. Did not want to take a chance that the remote might not work with another brand.
After ordering the Sony on the net I downloaded the manual and read it over a few times. That made the set-up very easy when the recorder finally did arrive. I also wanted to know what kind of DVD disks to buy. If you are planning on using the chasing playback or the simultaneous record and play features you need to have 2x speed DVD-RW disks and not the DVD+RW disks.
I was also concerned when I saw the fan in the back of the recorder. Thought it might be noisy like on my PC but it is whisper quiet or at least a lot quieter than the old Sharp VCR was.
The recorder works great with my Sony RM-AV3000 universal remote.
My old GO DVD player had a zoom feature that increased the size of the DVD picture up to 4X. The Sony zoom only increases the size of the menu Title List. Also it doesn't have the new HDMI connection.
All in all, I am very pleased with the quality of the picture, sound and ease of operation of the Sony RDR-GX300.
