| tlcoulson's Full Review: Sony RM-AV2100 LCD Touchscreen Remote Control |
First off, I would NOT recommend buying this at a store. The price is close to $150 there. I got it on-line for $90 including shipping. Several on-line stores had comparable prices.
As far as the remote itself, it controls up to 12 devices and allows three macros (command sequences) to be programmed. I love the macros as I am lazy and have programmed one to change the video input of the TV and the audio input of the amp and turn on the DVD player with the touch of one button. Another macro reverses that. Before it took several button pushes and two remotes to do these tasks.
Many devices are pre-coded and you just need to program the remote to these presets (just like other all in one remotes). "Oddly" the factory presets are all for Sony equipment! If the code isn't available, I found this remote to be easily programmable. My cable remote was not in the presets, but after 2 minutes of looking at the manual and maybe 3 minutes of programming, I had the cable box running off the new remote. It also has a backlit display if needed which is nice if you have the lights dimmed or off while watching TV.
Some functions you may want to program have no real match on the display. This is my only real problem with the remote, but all common functions make sense or have close enough equivalents ("execute" instead of "select", etc.)
As most others have said about this remote, it certainly is nice not to have to look for 5 or 6 remotes to watch a movie or listen to the stereo. I would highly recommend this remote to anyone who wants to run 4 or more devices on a common remote.
