justinbw's Full Review: Sony RM-V202 Remote Control
* If you are looking for a remote to control every feature of your TV, VCR, DVD and SAT/Cable, this remote is not for you, but if you just need a remote that controls the basic features that you most commonly use than you are looking in the right place. This will not control everything, but it will control basically the all the most commonly used functions. I rarely have to use the original remote, and when I do it is usually to set the settings again after the power has gone out and to program my VCR to record. Along with all the basic controls you always use, it has a picture in picture button, menu button, last channel return, mute, record and a TV/video button.
* The reason I got this remote was I was tried of having to use one remote to turn on my television and control the volume, and another remote to operate my VCR or DVD player. This remote will operate a DVD player, VCR, TV, and a SAT/Cable box. What I first noticed about this remote was the great design. It is silver with blue buttons, white, gray and 1 green button. The power button is green, most commonly used buttons are blue and the others are white and gray. There are not many companies that make universal remotes, so there are not many to choose from, but with a remote like this you dont need another choice because this is, simply the best. It fits very comfortably in my hand and I could not ask for a better placement of the buttons. All the buttons you use most often, like the number buttons, volume control, channel up and down and power, are all within reach of your thumb, so there is no need to take you hand off. The buttons that are used very little are down at the button, where your hand covers up when holding it, and that is a good this because who wants the menu button within thumb reach and the mute button at the bottom? The most commonly used buttons are all large and are well spaced out, so you dont accidentally push the wrong button and the buttons that are rarely used are smaller. I have another universal remote, made by another company, and I am constantly bumping the button to choose which electronic device to control so instead of turning on my TV, I turn on my VCR. With this remote it never happens because all the buttons are in the correct spot to prevent the wrong button from accidentally being pushed. Most the remotes weight is towards the bottom, which is good because that is the part that is mostly in the palm of my hand.
* It features a 3 minute memory back up so if the batteries are removed you wont have to reprogram the codes. It is compatible with most electronic brands. Before buying this remote I didnt even know that many brands existed before looking at the compatibility chart, so unless you went to China to buy your television this remote will more than likely work. For people that have a Sony product, here is another big plus. The remote is pre-programmed to work with Sony electronics so there will be no need for you to ever have to program or re-program.
* The thing that I find to be the best about this remote, compared to the remotes that came with my TV, VCR, and DVD player, is that it has excellent range. With my other remote I had to point it right at the electronic device I was trying to operate, but with this I can point it to the side, at the ceiling, and even behind me and almost always works.
* Overall this is a highly recommended remote due to it design, quality, features and best of all, its price. Other remotes operate more devices, like a stereo, but they just make the remote bigger and the buttons are closer together, so unless you operate a different device very often, I would not recommend getting a remote that can do everything. Just get a remote for the devices you mostly use. If you have Sony electronics, no programming is involved and if you have other electronic brands the programming is very simple to do.
Sony's RM-V202 Universal Remote Commander Remote Control is a great low cost replacement for lost or broken units and consolidates 4 remotes into one....More at eBay
