| ulua's Full Review: Sony SA-WM500 Subwoofer Speaker |
I went to Best Buy yesterday to buy a subwoofer. I checked one of audio demo rooms and listened to several smaller subs that were about $300-$1000. I wasn't satisfied with the sound of any of them. The subs in the other demo room were $500 and up and I didn't want to spend that much money so I decided to check the sony subs on the main floor because I heard good things about them such as good sound for a fair price. I settled on the SA-WM500 because it was in my price range and sounded pretty decent on the main floor. I hooked it up to my system, a Harman Kardon HK3480 and Klipsch 2.5 speakers. I was pleasantly surprised at the sound quality I got compared to the subs I heard at Best Buy. I listened to Bostons, Definitives, and other supposedly higher end subs and the Sony out performed them all. The bass was much tighter and clearer with the Sony for $80 plus less. I think it was a relatively fair comparison because I listen to the same recording at Best Buy that I did at home (Hotel California from the Hell Freezes Over CD by the Eagles).
