Ease of Use:
Pros:Great color and text. Works great on medium graphics intensive games.
Cons:A little pricey. Speakers are acceptable for basic sound only.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend buying this monitor for everyday usage, but probably buy speakers. Adjustable in many ways to fit your needs.
This is a great monitor for the price. I see that the price has come down over $50 since I bought it! I have used this monitor for over 6 months now and I have to say I'm very happy with the quality.
Screen and Color Quality:
There were no dead pixels when I turned it on and none have appeared. Color depth and accuracy seems to be very good for my usage. I use it mainly for editing digital photographs of my SW fish tank and the colors look identical to the real life thing to my untrained eye. I've used it for editing pictures of people as well and the representation seems true to me.
I use the DVI input and it came with the appropriate cables to hook up to my computer. We have played several DVDs and the video quality is excellent, with the audio being below average on the monitor speakers.
Text Quality:
I also use this monitor for extensive work on Microsoft office word and excel documents and like the resolution of text on the monitor. I never have trouble reading any text unless I make it super small (less than 10pt).
Field of view is excellent, you can go a decent amount to each side and still easily read the text. As with any LCD monitor, you should leave the monitor in its native resolution for best text quality.
Game Playing:
I rarely play computer games, but I did play Rise of Nations extensively on this computer and never had any trouble with the monitor keeping up with the action. I know it is not a graphics intense game compared to others so I can't accurately judge the monitor on this attribute.
Built-in Speakers and Support:
I had a problem getting my built in speakers to work and I called the tech support and after about 10 minutes of talking we were able to diagnose the problem and it was my incorrect wiring. Support people were very nice and it was free! None of this having to pay for technical support that some other companies are doing these days.
Speakers are a little weak, so if you want great sound, you should buy a speaker set and these will be disabled when another speaker set is plugged in.
Drivers:
Monitor Drivers are included on a CD-ROM which is very easy to use and install.
The Basics:
1,280 x 1,024 screen resolution, 0.294 mm dot pitch.
DVI-D and 2 analog inputs; cables: DVI-D and HD15
Wide 170-degree horizontal and vertical viewing angles
Auto-Sensing ErgoBright Technology; 600:1 contrast ratio
PC and Mac compatible; 3-year warranty
Summary:
A very good monitor for text and video quality. Swivels on its base and adjusts easily. On screen menus were fairly easy to use. Photo colors are accurate to real life. Low eye strain with long hours of use. Great for a home office. Speakers are acceptable, but if you want to watch a lot of DVDs or play audio intensive games, get desktop speakers.
