In a nutshell: the codes to control this system with other remotes don't exist. Per Sony the only thing that will control this is the remote with which it comes.
I purchased the SLV-D300P to use with our new Sony TV KV-36XBR800. We needed to upgrade our system and wanted to use just one remote control, the tv's. The DVD/VCR remote is filled with tiny buttons and even smaller print, all without backlit buttons. It does control just the basic features of the Sony TV, but it doesn't change the channels for our satellite. I would prefer to use the cleaner layout on the TV's remote.
Getting this Sony dvd/vcr combination seemed a fast solution to my desire for a single remote. The Sony tv remote even says it comes pre-programmed for Sony vcr's and dvd's. They don't work with Sony dvd/vcr combinations. I just can't imagine that a company who's selling point is that all Sony products communicate is willing to let this new product stay incommunicado. After 1 e-mail and 2 phone calls placed to Sony followed by Sony customer service manager and product specialists returning 2 phone calls, I have confirmation that these codes do not, and may not in the future, exist.
I also confirmed that this system, correction, all of the Sony dvd/vcr combination units are not compatible with any of the Sony tv's or the Dish/Ecostar satellite receiver. At our house it's much easier to use the satellite guide to plan and program our vcr recording.
My last little gripe is the blue light on the dvd/vcr combo. When the DVD is on with a dvd with progressive inside, a bright blue light stays lit. This is very distracting. I would also like the option of turning off the led.
