Pros: Chillin' like a villain
Cons: Heavy, not the most attractive thing. Window kit is sort of flimsy.
The Bottom Line: It cools like it is supposed to! It also does not require emptying a water pan very often, as the water is misted back into the outside air.

| bunwhisper's Full Review: Royal Sovereign ARP-1000E Portable Air Conditioner |
I actually have the 1000ES model--I think the only difference is a slightly updated cabinet design and the fan now has a medium speed.
So far, I am very happy with this. I only need occasional cooling, as I live near the ocean, but on those few hot days, I think this is going to really be helpful.
I have casement (sliding) windows, so most window units do not work for me. I read about this one on the Sears website, and it was given 4 out of 5 stars with many reviews. So I bought it.
It is heavy. I had quite the struggle getting it up the stairs to my apartment. But once in, it rolls nicely on its casters. It isn't the most attractive thing in the world--I feel like I have a small fridge in my office now. The window kit was not horribly difficult to install, but the screws needed to fasten the hose to the kit were missing. Hm, didn't think this was air conditioning by IKEA :) The window kit really should come with some foam and weatherstripping, IMO, as it doesn't fit the window snugly enough. This is not unique to this unit--they all have the same sort of kit.
I don't think it is that noisy. It is not as bad as a regular window unit--at least not the old ones I have been around. It seems to be cooling really well. It was over 90 today and my office was crispy cold! Love it! My office is about 12 x 16 plus an attached bath.
The unit has a remote, which seems nice. You can change the temperature from across the room, or change the fan speed (it has three) or shut it off entirely. Would be very handy in a bedroom! It has a timer, too. I don't know how well it dehumidifies--it is not humid here in Southern California. This unit sends the condensation back out the window in a mist, in order to minimize emptying the drip tray. Other portable units dont always have this feature--they require that you empty the tray often, or the unit will shut down. Not a problem with this unit!
The filter needs to be cleaned after 100 hours of use (just wash it off and let it dry).
All in all a great unit--it cools well, which is all I truly care about!
