| dan1r's Full Review: Bose MediaMate® 2 Speakers |
I am very picky about sound. For example, I returned my TV after I had bought it just because the sound sucked and bought a different more expensive TV just for the sound. For most people they wouldn't have cared. But for me, it's important, in order to be able to really enjoy it, to feel like you're right there in the middle of the concert or the action.
I've owned my Bose Mediamate speakers for 5 years now. Back then they were $200. Previously, I had owned a Boston Acoustics 2.1 speaker system with subwoofer. I have to say that these Bose speakers knock the socks off that system! Unlike the other reviewer, when evaluating a speaker system you have to remember that it's more than just the bass, although these provide good bass. The clarity of the sound, the balance, the overall pleasantness is important. And these speakers shine in that respect. I found that music sounded more natural and balanced on the Bose. They simply made the music sound good. They do provide enough bass through ports below each of the speaker drivers. Bose is a master at fitting great bass into small compartments. And the bass from these speakers will fill the room. These speakers won't annoyingly make the walls shake as though there were an earthquake but they will provide enough smooth bass to make the music sound good. Isn't that the real point? It's not just a competition to see who has the loudest bass. It's about the end overall sound. And for that Bose does a good job.
If you want great quality sound that makes you feel good listening to it, get the Bose Mediamates. I even thought of getting them for my sister because they sounded so good. Bottom line, if you really want great sound, get these. To me the important thing is, does the sound delivered by these speakers make me feel like I'm in the middle of the action to the point that I almost forget that I'm even listening through speakers? The answer for me is Yes.
