A Great 2.1 Speaker System
Written: Mar 18 '04
Pros:Excellent quality 2.1 Speaker and Subwoofer set.
Cons:No analog cable in the box, wobbly sub. Otherwise, nothing.
The Bottom Line: While you probably can't find these in a store anyplace nowadays, I recommend looking up other Boston Acoustic brand computer speakers systems.
I had my first experience with Boston Acoustics speakers listening to my uncle's set that came with his Gateway computer about 3 years ago and I made sure that I got them with my new computer as well. An advertisement for a Gateway computer bundle caught my eye and decided to get it. As it turned out, the Boston speakers that were advertised didn't come with my computer package when it arrived. I was given a really cheap set of Creative speakers. Fortunately, Gateway was nice enough to admit their mistake and sent me these. (These were even a newer model than what was advertised, so I wasn't going to complain too much.)
Now, 3 years later, I still have and use this speaker system and they still work the same as when I first opened the box - Perfectly. Not only do just the speakers sound great, but the subwoofer that came with it is probably the best small sub I have ever came across. It's that good.
For analog and digital sound cards, this speaker set works with virtually any system that you throw at it. The only gripe I had with it is the fact that it did not include a analog audio cable in the box; it only had a digital one. I had to switch because my new notebook computer did not support the digital signal that my Gateway tower had. It was definately worth the extra few bucks to get them going though, with no decline in quality by the way.
The only negative things I can say about this set is the fact that the subwoofer is not completely flat on the bottom of it. This isn't noticeable if it is on carpet, but my dorm room is not carpeted so it is sitting on tile, so it kinda wobbles around a bit. It doesn't hurt it, but it's something that I noticed.
Also, sometimes the little stands that attach to the speakers fall off a little easy. It's usually not a big deal.
