Nowadays, if you buy a new computer, most brands, like Compaq, have the JBL Pro amplified speakers for their monitors, and HP, has the Polk Premuim speakers, and IBM has Infinity, Dell has usually a couple of selections, Gateway has Boston Acoustics, and a couple more choices, but you get my point. Companies realize people are playing more games, listening to more music, and doing more sound intensive activities with their computer, so why not have a nice pair of speakers to go with their nice sound card, and charge $50 more bucks for it?
Makes sense to me. Back in the day, MY computer, came with odd shaped, horrid sounding factory IBM computer speakers. The MMS-20 computer speaker from Cyber Acoustics would be a wonderful purchase if you have those type of speakers. While not necessairly a bad choice in computer speakers, if you have a new computer, or even a couple of years old, chances are you have a decent set already, so these wouldn't even come to mind. For an old computer, or something you just want to listen to simple things, these would be fine.
They do have bass and treble control, and 5 watts total power. After halfway, they distort noticeably, and anything with lots of bass, will tear these things apart. For ten dollars more, you can get the Cyber Acoustics model with 2 satellite speakers, and a subwoofer, while not great, are well worth the extra money.
So in short, these would pretty much be not much better then the cheapest factory speakers you can get with your computer, they are good for basic things, or for something you just want to add sound too, go for it. Don't expect the fine details of a concerto playing, or the deep bass of an exploding building when playing games.
