Good speakers and a great sub make for some loud music and thundering sound effects.
INSTALLATION:
I chose to mount the satellites onto my monitor because I lack any extra space on my desk. The mounting system works great. There are to L shaped brackets that attach to the monitor basically using double sided tape.. doesn't sound very advanced, but it works very well. Now the mounts are in place and you have to do is slide the speakers onto the mounts. Easy. Now we get to the more complex part, hooking up all the cords. There are four jacks on the bottom of the right satellite: Stereo Input, Output 1, Output 2, and Microphone Output. The Stereo Input and Microphone Output hook into your soundcard. Hood the Stereo Input to the speaker output on your soundcard and the Microphone Output to the microphone input on your soundcard. The two outputs go to the left speaker and the subwoofer. Next I hooked Output 1 to the left speaker and Output 2 to the subwoofer. Overall pretty easy, just lots of cords.
FEATURES:
Two satellites: 2- 2" 7.5 watts RMS midrange, 2" 5.5 watts RMS tweeter
Subwoofer: 6" downward firing woofer 44 watts RMS
These speakers have every feature you could possibly need. There are four knobs on the right satellite: Volume, Treble, Bass, 3D Stereo. The volume knob is no big deal, there's one on every speaker system. The treble and bass knobs are very nice. Now, what you've been waiting for, the 3D Stereo knob. I have not found much use for this. It does make the sound 3D, but it also makes it sound airy. There are two jacks on the front of the right speaker: headphones and microphone. When you plug the headphones the speakers and sub turn off and you can adjust the headphones' volume with the volume knob on the speaker. The microphone jack just allows for easy access to the microphone jack on your soundcard, basically just an extension cord that is well placed on the speaker.
PERFORMANCE:
At low volumes these could sound better, but at higher volumes these sound great. If you like bass, you'll love these speakers. The subwoofer is just plain awesome. I can crank it up and the bass is always perfect. As for the satellites, these could be better, especially when the volume is lower. At low volumes the higher sounds are not there, but at high volumes everything sounds great. My only other gripe is the headphone jack. When I plug my headphones into the jack the headphones buzz, rendering the headphone jack useless if you ask me (I hope this is only a defect on my system).
Overall, music, games, and even DVD movies all sound great at higher volumes. Even at low volumes they sound good, just not great. I just wish the headphone jack didn't buzz.
BOTTOM LINE:
Great price, great sound. Good satellites, great subwoofer (6 inches baby!). If you want great sound for a low price, buy these speakers.
REASON FOR PURCHASE:
I checked out many reviews of these before I bought them and all of them were good. I bought them and now I love them. I love showing how I can crank these up louder than any of my friends' systems with great performance. I would recommend these to anyone on a low budget... low budget being under $200. I haven't seen any speakers for less than $200 that can outperform these, and they are only $99.
