| kriebe's Full Review: Yamaha YST-MS201 2 Speakers |
I've been looking at these speakers for quite some time now, but I've had speakers that I've been using for about 7 years now that have sound excellent considering they only cost $30 then. Then I ended up buying a new computer, so I wanted the new computer to have new speakers. I figured it was about time.
For the normal price at Best Buy of $79 these things are a steal, but then I noticed the prices online here and was couldn't believe it. I work at Best Buy, so I didn't have to worry about paying the full amount either way. I had looked at all of the other speakers in the computer department and either the quality wasn't there or the price and the physical size were too large. Until I looked at the $150 and over range, I didn't see anything comparable to the Yamaha's. So I went over to the portable audio area in Best Buy and picked these up. And please don't ask me why they are in that area. It makes no sense to me. Just remember to look there decide to buy from Best Buy.
Each satellite is 6 watts and the sub is 18 watts. I have no need to go any louder or even close to its limits. Unless you use your computer for total multimedia movie watching, these speakers are great. Otherwise you will find yourself spending much more.
Now that I got these speakers home and hooked up to my new computer, I was blown away to say the least. I hate using my old speakers now on my other computer. Its kinda sad actually. The Yamaha's are so much richer and fuller with its highs and lows. MP3s never sounded better.
Having the large volume nob on the front of the right speaker couldn't make it any easier to adjust the volume. The subwoofer level is on the back, which may be a problem for some, but for me, once I set it in, I'm set for good.
Now for the one problem I have with them. The cables are a bit short. Currently I have a cable going directly across my desk in order to have the left speaker where I want it, so I'm gonna have to get an extender, which should have very minimal reduction in quality, if any at all.
