Pros:Not Too Difficult For Kids, Reading Isn't Necessary,
Cons:Too easy for older people, Need More Difficulties
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this more to children getting into games. My cousin loves it and plays it all the time.
My cousin upstairs from me had just gotten a Game Cube. His first two games he got was Mario Party 5 and SpongeBob: Battle for Bikini Bottom. I tried it out, and noticed that it wasn't half bad at all. I said to myself that I have to get this game, if I see it real cheap. It was around the end of September when I bought this game for about $10.00 on sale.
Story:
It all started out with Patrick and SpongeBob playing with their toy robots. Then they were starting to get bored and SpongeBob wishes that there were real robots. The next morning they wake up to see a whole bunch of mindless robots destroying Bikini Bottom and thinks it's all his fault. What really happened was that Plankton created all the robots with his Duplication 3000, but forgot to turn on the "obey Plankton" switch and now his robots are running a mock in Bikini Bottom.
Game-Play:
In this adventure game you fight jelly fish, robots and other stuff. That's not all you do. You also have to go around and collect Golden Spatulas. You get these Golden Spatulas by looking in hidden locations and completing little errands that are given to you. When you find and retrieve spatulas the game automatically saves. In the game have you a lot of places to explore. To get to them you might need a certain amount of spatulas or you can't go in. When you defeat enemies a whole bunch of "Shiny Things" go into you, don't worry they are not bad. They are actually like money in this game. Mr. Krabs in the beginning of the game will tell you to get a certain amount of "Shiny Things" so he can give you a Golden Spatula. While exploring you will encounter clams that will ask you for "Shiny Things", or they won't let you pass. You will also see slides that you can go in and crash into boxes with "Shiny Things" inside.
SpongeBob is not the only playable character, you can also play as Sandy and Patrick. In my opinion Sandy is the better character to play as. She has her own rope and swings around from place to place. She also has this ability to swing the rope like a helicopter thing. Patrick can't do that but he is the muscle that you will need. He picks up watermelons and throws them at buttons to open a passage way. He can also pick up ice cubes to freeze the water when he throws it. SpongeBob is the character that you start using. He is the only one that can bungi-jump. he likes to use bubble techniques. One of them is just simply hitting the enemy with it. He also does like this super jump to break things down. When he does this a big bubble helmet with horns goes on his head. In this game you will be forced to use every one of them if you plan on beating it.
Graphics:
This game is filled with bright colors. Every thing looks great. The buildings, plants, water, and everything else in the game is colorful. There are no polygons or anything at all. All the characters look like what they do in the show. I'm surprised that the game wasn't cell-shaded, like most cartoon type games are, an example would be The Fairly Odd Parents.
Sound, Voice, Music:
The sounds were all in the game. You have SpongeBob's squeaky shoes, the water when it freezes, bubble effects, everything. All the voices in the game were done by the people that do it in the show. It's not like some games where the character just sounds so different than what they actually do. The acting was alright, it seemed that most of the words fit the lips. The music wasn't bad, nothing memorable. During bosses it would get more fast-paced.
Final Comments:
This game would be perfect for anyone. I would recommend this to any child just starting to play games or already has. This game is the least frustrating game I've ever played. One reason was that there is no Game Over, you just continue at the last check point, which come very often. The game looks nice and the controls are so easy to learn. My little cousin already has SpongeBob: The Movie and prefers to play this one. Believe me I've even asked him for his opinion. He says "The Game Is So Cool, Oh Man". The game is just fun and if you want to play something not too serious, then this is it.
