Same that and New York state of mind 2 almost made me buy that album. Then i seen Dr knock a boo and i justy burned the good songs from that and Nastrodamus on 1 CD. I only buy CDs that are actually good the whole way through

Hey dude, great review, even though I myself am a fan of Hate Me Now as well as I AM, I can see how you aren't a big fan of the commercial Nas. Keep up the good work

although I didn't totally dislike It Was Written or I Am. I actually thought I Am was better than all of Jay's post Reasonable Doubt output...excluding Hate Me Now of course. But this album is just amazing to me...its not perfect as you've so eloquently said, but light years ahead of most CDs released in the past few years.
nice work.

"Nas is Like" is a classic song. That almost made me buy I AM as well, until I listened to the entire album.

I agree that "Braveheart Party" is horrible. Almost anything would have been better. He wasted Mary J. on that song.

I'm not disputing that I Am was a terrible album, I actually bought it for Nas Is Like, which I still think is agreat song -- but anyway, for the record, Undying Love from that CD is one of my favorite songs of all time, I get goosebumps every time I listen to it, so that's proof positive that Nas does have the talent to make exceptional music -- I just wish I could see it in all of his work like a lot of people can, but I just don't see it usually...D

I gotta disagree with your overall opinion on this Stillmatic. Got Urself a Gun has become kinda catchy to me, but I really don't like the way Nas has been using questionable 2pac stories left and right as a launching pad right before he dropped the album -- but then, Jay does the same with Biggie, so I guess being a Jay fan, I don't have a lot of room to complain about Nas doing it.
I do like One Mic, but they've been mixing Braveheart Party in some late night DJ scratches on the radio here, and I agree with what everyone else has already said -- it's a horrible song. I don't really share the same view as most people do as far as Ether goes -- it's got a couple of redeeming spots here and there, but overall, I think it's a pretty weak comeback -- I just never really saw Nas as a good battle rapper, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt whenever he drops a new diss and listen to it as unbiasedly as possible, but I think he's got one hell of an uphill battle the way Jay seems to already have a plethora of disses just waiting to release 2 days after Nas drops -- just like he did w/ Super Ugly.
But anyway, I'll probably get a burned copy of this whole album eventually, just to give him the benefit of the doubt, and not go around saying how bad the album sucks when I haven't listened to it in it's entirety -- but my bias against Nas goes way deep for a ton of reasons, so it'll take an absolutely fantastic album to alter my view....D

Same here. But, even though I've been over-playing Stillmatic, I've been blasting Masta Ace's Disposable Arts more than this.

Cool. After your review comes up, I'll respond with a review of The Blueprint for a compare/contrast. How's that? CHALLENGE!

I think it might be because no one expected an album this good anymore from Nas. His last outing was questionable to say the least. Stillmatic is awesome and the critics know it, so Columbia was smart to really get behind it.

So, you CLAIM this album is better than the blueprint? Now I gotta go to audiogalaxy and download the album and review to show why it's not. I think the biggest disparity between the two rappers....nah I'll save it for my review. I can't believe this audacious claims mad, this stillmatic better be good. Okay, i'm off to audiogalaxy, beware a review is coming. Carletta

Columbia Records must really believe in this particular cd because I see them promoting the hell out of it here (you know, in po-dunk Indiana). I don't know if it's that way everywhere else but here, I can't go anywhere or do anything without it being in my face :).
