The fact that I've chosen Stolichnaya for this opinion, doesn't really mean anything. This is merely about my appreciation for my drink of choice, vodka and cranberry juice.
Vodka goes very well with cranberry juice (and most other juices for that matter). Any vodka. Except maybe $10-a-bottle-pour-your-own from the local liquor store. I suggest Stolichnaya or Absolut, but Smirnoff is fine.
Here is a brilliant recipe that I invented one night of drinking which uses the key ingredients, vodka and cranberry.
SECRET GARDEN - © Ani Moller 2000
1. Cut 2 medium sized lemons into halves. Rub the juice of one half around the rim of a tall glass. Dip the glass into castor sugar.
2. Pour 3-4 shots of vodka over a few large cubes of ice.
3. Fill 3/4 of the glass with cranberry juice.
4. Top up with lemonade. Use a classic tasting lemonade such as Schweppes, as Sprite and 7up just don't cut the mustard.
5. Squeeze the rest of the lemons into the drink.
6. Put about a shot glass worth of limejuice for tartness.
7. Finish off with a slice of lime on the side of the glass.
Variations:
Exchange the slice of lime for a slice of passionfruit.
Add a shot of very pulpy orange juice for a sweeter flavour.
Try pineapple or grape juice instead of cranberry, but obviously, it's not going to be as good and you can't use as much vodka otherwise it'll taste like a cosmopolitan on acid.
Vodka is great.
