encryption problem (Reply to this comment)
by benreaves
Staroffice can not handle Excel files that were encrypted with Microsoft Excel. Might be the same with Word, I didn't check. Unfortunately that's a show-stopper for me.

I considered doing so but to be fair one almost MUST do a complete comparative review of each module - about 700-1000 words. I did that for Computing Canada.com for Office 2000/xp versus Star Office 5.1 several years back. I am not certain if the reviews or site for that matter are still available. But if you and others are interested I would be willing to divide and conquer.

In addition to the overall review, if you gave a mini-review of each of the components.

Interesting (Reply to this comment)

The review got my attention and definitely makes me want to learn more. I rated it as 'helpful' because I got a little confused. Is there a Star Office for Windows. (You implied at the end Star Office was NOT Windows compatible.)
More important, you said it was comparable to all of MS Office's programs except Outlook, yet you only mentioned Write. Is it compatible with MS Word? (I got the impression from your comments version 7 did have a more compatible word processing program.) Can you translate back and forth with MS *.doc and *.rtf files? Will it handle Word Perfect *.wpd documents? If it does create PDF documents, that's great!
As I said, you piqued my interest, Thanks for the review.
